We were contacted by a concerned educator who felt uncomfortable about a particular book that they were asked to use as part of the PSCHE provision. We contacted the school and provided this booklist that we are sharing here.
If you would like a copy of the letter we sent to the school or document version of the booklist please contact us via the contact page.
Schools provide an ideal environment for promoting good emotional wellbeing. For children experiencing adversity at home, school can also provide a consistent, protective and therapeutic environment which can help them to cope.
Although schools endeavour to create meaningful learning experiences for all the pupils, some provision has included literature that uses dated imagery with connotations that reinforce negative stereotypes towards marginalised groups. We have collated a list of books that promote healthy emotional health and are reflective of the diverse society in which we live.
